"Since second-degree burns are more severe, I recommend a heavier ointment to protect the sensitive or blistered skin," Zeichner says. After you pop the blister, apply an antibiotic cream and, whatever you do, make sure not to rip any of this skin off. Gently press on the blister to drain the fluid. Using a sewing needle, which should also be sterilized with rubbing alcohol, gently poke the side of the blister, Zeichner says. To do this, grab some rubbing alcohol and sterilize the blister and surrounding skin. "If the blister is large, and you feel up to it, you can try to drain it," says Zeichner. You have to be especially careful with the blisters. But as it heals, the experts say it's important to pay closer attention to spot signs of infection. Zeichner recommends Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lotion to help seal in moisture.įor a mild second-degree burn, you can treat it pretty much the same way you would a first-degree burn. The remedy? Keep it moist with aloe vera gel or a light petroleum-based lotion. Since a burn disrupts the skin barrier, it can become extra dry and sensitive as it heals. "Instead look for gentle, hydrating, soap-free cleansers like Dove Deep Moisture Nourishing Body Wash that effectively cleanse the skin and hydrate at the same time - without causing more damage to the outer skin layer."įinally, you want to make sure to keep scorched skin moist. To safely clean your burn stay away from any exfoliating cleansers and harsh soaps, which have an alkaline pH and can be irritating, Zeichner explains. "But overly scrubbing the skin, which is already weakened from a sunburn, can cause more harm than good." "Especially after leaving the beach, you may want to scrub the skin to remove dirt, sand, oil, and sunscreen," he explains. The key word here though is gently, Zeichner stresses. Important note: Third- and fourth-degree burns, or burns that cover more than 10% of the body, must always be treated at a hospital.Gently cleansing your skin after a first- or second-degree burn is also important. This type of wound leaves the body vulnerable to infections. Reconstructive surgery is needed to repair the burned area. People with widespread fourth-degree burns can die from their injuries. Anyone with suspected third-degree burns needs to be immediately taken to hospital.įourth-degree burns (extends through skin, subcutaneous tissue and into underlying muscle and bone). People with third-degree burns that cover a large part of the body can go into shock, stop breathing and die. A skin graft is necessary to heal the area. The skin dies, turns white and has no sensation because of damaged nerve endings. Third-degree burns (full-thickness epidermal and dermal destruction ) are more serious than first- and second-degree burns because they extend through all of the skin’s layers. Seek immediate medical help if the burn is larger than 2 or 3 cm in diameter or is on the face, hands, feet, genitals, buttocks, or a major joint. If you have a second-degree burn, you should see your doctor. Unlike first-degree burns, second-degree burns cause blistering or open sores on the skin, are more painful than first-degree burns, and take 10 to 15 days to heal.

The original colorway was white/medium grey/black, however several other colors were introduced shortly after. The Air Force III was more rugged looking and more durable than the previous two versions. It was worn by many basketball players at the time. The Air Force 3 introduced in 1988 was the most popular version of the Air Force series. The shoe can be custom made in any color, but typically it has either a white or black based background with almost any color used to fill in the Nike Swoosh and back heel. They can be made in either the low-cut or high-top style. Also, Air Force 2s were re-released internationally in the early 2000s. The shoe is a typical flat-soled, casual-wear sneaker that can be made in many different variations of colors. The Air Force 2 shoe introduced in 1987 is a newer variation of the original. Later versions Off-White collaborated with Nike to produce this version Since its creation over 1,700 color variations have been produced, bringing in an estimated annual revenue of US$800 million. Little has changed to the Air Force One since its creation in 1982, although the stitching on the side panels of earlier versions is no longer present. It was re-released in 1986 with the modern italic Nike logo with a " Swoosh" revenue on the bottom of the back of the shoe. The Air Force 1 was produced in 1982 and discontinued in 1984. Nike Air Force 1s were ubiquitous in Harlem, New York, giving rise to the nickname "Uptowns". The medallion is engraved with the inscription "AF-1", with the year "'82" inscribed beside it, and has historically been colored silver.īruce Kilgore designed the shoe the name is a reference to Air Force One, the plane that carries the President of the United States. Another identifying characteristic of an Air Force 1 shoe is a small medallion secured to the bottom of the laces but with holes on both sides so it can be removed by sliding it off the shoe lace. Although the shoe comes in different colors and color schemes, the most common Air Force 1s sold are solid white (also referred to as "white on white"), the second most common being solid black ("black on black"). The high-top Air Force 1s come with a velcro strap the mid-top strap is secured to the shoe while the high-top's strap is movable and removable on some versions. The shoes are sold in 3 different styles: low, mid, and high. The shoe is offered in low-, mid- and high-top styles. This is particularly useful when ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE targets a table named excluded, since that will otherwise be taken as the name of the special table representing the row proposed for insertion. When an alias is provided, it completely hides the actual name of the table. The name (optionally schema-qualified) of an existing table. In such a case both sets of with_query can be referenced within the query, but the second one takes precedence since it is more closely nested. It is possible for the query ( SELECT statement) to also contain a WITH clause. The WITH clause allows you to specify one or more subqueries that can be referenced by name in the INSERT query. If you use the query clause to insert rows from a query, you of course need to have SELECT privilege on any table or column used in the query. Use of the RETURNING clause requires SELECT privilege on all columns mentioned in RETURNING. However, ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE also requires SELECT privilege on any column whose values are read in the ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE expressions or condition. Similarly, when ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE is specified, you only need UPDATE privilege on the column(s) that are listed to be updated. If a column list is specified, you only need INSERT privilege on the listed columns. If ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE is present, UPDATE privilege on the table is also required. You must have INSERT privilege on a table in order to insert into it. WHERE clause condition was not satisfied, the row will not be returned. For example, if a row was locked but not updated because an ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE. Only rows that were successfully inserted or updated will be returned. The syntax of the RETURNING list is identical to that of the output list of SELECT. However, any expression using the table's columns is allowed. This is primarily useful for obtaining values that were supplied by defaults, such as a serial sequence number. The optional RETURNING clause causes INSERT to compute and return value(s) based on each row actually inserted (or updated, if an ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE clause was used). ON CONFLICT can be used to specify an alternative action to raising a unique constraint or exclusion constraint violation error. Tables with unique indexes might block if concurrent sessions perform actions that lock or modify rows matching the unique index values being inserted the details are covered in Section 64.5. INSERT into tables that lack unique indexes will not be blocked by concurrent activity. If the expression for any column is not of the correct data type, automatic type conversion will be attempted. The values supplied by the VALUES clause or query are associated with the explicit or implicit column list left-to-right.Įach column not present in the explicit or implicit column list will be filled with a default value, either its declared default value or null if there is none. If no list of column names is given at all, the default is all the columns of the table in their declared order or the first N column names, if there are only N columns supplied by the VALUES clause or query. The target column names can be listed in any order. One can insert one or more rows specified by value expressions, or zero or more rows resulting from a query. We’ve already touched on the fact that reverse crunches work your core more safely and more effectively than traditional crunches, but the benefits don’t stop there. Not only are you focusing on looking good, but you’ll also be engaging your body in a way that builds real strength and functionality, helping you avoid injuries. The latter muscle group, transverse abdominals, are the deepest part of the abdominal muscles and are especially important when it comes to reverse crunches. The obliques are in charge of stabilizing the spine, while the transverse abdominals stabilize the core. The other major movers in this exercise are the obliques and the transverse abdominals. It hits this area much more effectively and is a good way to go if you’re searching for those ever-elusive bottom abs. What reverse crunches specialize in, however, are the lower abs. And while it might sometimes look like 6 or 8 separate muscles, it’s actually just a single large muscle spanning the front of your body. The biggest mover in the reverse crunch is the rectus abdominis-aka, the six-pack. Its greatest benefit is that it doesn’t require you to bend your spine back and forth repeatedly, which also maximizes the time your muscles are under tension (getting you greater gains in the long run). The reverse crunch is a more advanced, but better-for-your-back substitute for traditional crunches. Which is where the reverse crunch comes in. So, while a popular ab workout, crunches are definitely not the most effective way to tone your abdominals-at least if you’re aiming for longevity as well. What this means, however, is that hip flexors which are too tight will usually pull on the lower spine, often leading to lower back pain. Furthermore, they also activate the hip flexors-muscles running from thighs to the lower lumbar vertebrae. Most of those reasons are due to neck pain, but there are techniques to minimize that.īut crunches are especially hard on the back since they push your curved spine against the hard floor. This is, as most of us know, an exercise that’s not usually wholeheartedly recommended by people. Let’s take, for example, the classic crunch.Įssentially everyone is familiar with this simple bodyweight movement, only requiring you to lay on your back with your hands behind your head and lift the upper body off the floor. However, a lot of criticism has been launched at certain workouts that specifically hit the core, making the ab exercise waters a murky affair to wade into. And of course, we all know our favorite abdominal exercise, the sit-up. All of these, when performed properly while having the correct muscles activated, will help to develop your core. From the Olympic lifts to the traditional barbell/deadlift/squat lifts, to the humble push-up and the pull-up. The benefits of a strong core extend much further than a head-turning 6-pack.Īlmost all compound, full-body movements will engage the core in some way. Ever since then, core strength has been at the forefront of training regimes-also extending all the way back to WWII with the creation of Pilates to rehabilitate soldiers.Ī well-developed core is the base for essentially all movements that we do, from reaching a shelf, to lifting a barbell, to throwing a ball. The hype around the core began in the 90s when researchers found that people with healthy backs automatically engaged their cores before trying to move an arm or a leg. Not to mention minimizing your chance of injuring yourself (especially your back). Working the muscles in the trunk area, collectively known as the core muscles, will improve posture while also helping your other lifts, and functional and athletic fitness in general. We’ve all wanted to lose a bit of belly fat at some point, which will only really happen if you expend more calories throughout a day than take in-but it is possible to develop the abdominals and expend calories at the same time. The reverse crunch is the exercise to do if you’re looking for that elusive 6-pack-read on to find out why and how you should do it. And if you’re ready to work for them, well do we have the exercise for you. Men love ‘em, women love ‘em, you love ‘em, we love ‘em. They’re the crème de la crème of a physically fit body. Sure, a lower body fat percentage makes them easier to get and gives a more shredded look, but jacked-up dudes can have them as well. Whatever your fitness goal is, the abs will always be there, waiting for you at the end. And not everyone wants to look go full ottermode either. Sure, big pecs are great if you’re looking for bulk-but what if you’re going for the lean, shredded vibe? Same goes for massive arms we can all respect the work that goes into cultivating them, but not everyone wants to look like a muscle head. Abs are the crowning achievement for almost any body type. European backbone networks (e.g., EBONE) had a similar evolution from 2 Mbps to 34 Mbps. Later that same year, NSFNET upgraded to T3 lines (45 Mbps). In 1990 NSFNET version 3 was upgraded to T1 lines (1.544 Mbps). NSFNET version 2 leased 448 Kbps fiber optic channels and IBM RS/4000s were used as routers. NSFNET was an immediate success and was overloaded from the day it started. These fuzzballs were running TCP/IP and were connected with 56 Kbps leased lines. In the NSFNET, each interconnected supercomputing site had an LSI-11 microcomputer called a fuzzball. Federal agencies have always shared the cost of common infrastructure such as peering points for interagency traffic -the Federal Internet Exchanges (FIX-E and FIX-W) were built for this purpose and have served as models for the Network Access Points (NAPs) and "*IX" facilities that are prominent features of today's Internet. Backbone and non-backbone ISPs exchange traffic at what is generally called peering points. It is typical for a large corporation to connect with one or more backbone ISPs. For Internet connectivity, at some point all non-backbone networks must connect to a backbone ISP (the highest level). Non-backbone ISPs exist solely to provide Internet access to consumers. Routers can be connected together into campus, metropolitan, or regional networks. The current Internet is a loose connection of TCP/IP networks organized into a multilevel hierarchy using a wide variety of technologies.Īt the lowest level, computers are connected to each other, and to a router, in a local area network (LAN). Finally, national backbones interconnect in a mesh with other countries, usually with international trunk lines via land, undersea, or satellite. In the United States, these backbones are linked in a small number of interconnection points. A country typically has several backbones linking all of its Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Backbone BasicsĪ backbone is a high-speed wide area network (WAN) connecting lower speed networks. Today, a single government-managed Internet backbone has been transformed into a multitude of different backbones, most of which are private commercial enterprises. National Science Foundation (NSF), linked six supercomputing centers ( University of California- San Diego, National Center for Atmospheric Research, National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois, Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, Cornell University, and the John von Neumann Supercomputing Center/Princeton) and their associated regional networks in the United States in order to provide supercomputer access to scientists. Thus, the first Internet backbone, called the NSFNET because it was funded by the U.S. government realized that supercomputing was crucial to advances in science, defense, and economic competitiveness but the budget for research was insufficient to provide supercomputers for all scientists who needed them. You will get a blend of these service providers along with our own traffic and other peering connections. The first Internet backbone was invented to assist in the attempt to share supercomputers. The result is far more stable and resiliant network than what other provider that typically invest in transport platforms that keep core routing far from the customer. Our Deep Core network places major edge router platforms very close to the customer connection point. Our network architecture is far more reliable that other broadband providers. We provide Internet backbone services to many other local Internet Service Providers and larger corporate entities that need an ultra reliable network. These national networks when they have stability issues or denial of service problems. If there are any issues with these major upstream backbones, due to ACD's extensive network redundancy, we can decomission Instability on the Internet when it occurs. Our mission is to have the most stable network possible, having our network directly meshed with many other carriers allow us to ensure that we can circumvent ACD.net is highly connected to other major Internet Service Providers, thus we provide a high quality of blended Internet traffic at very cost effective rates. Still, with the mix of the digital asset management and A.I.-based tools that you can’t really find anywhere else, Luminar is an excellent Lightroom alternative. Lightroom’s range masks make local edits simpler and the healing brush tool also seemed to perform faster. there are a few things that Lightroom still does better. While Luminar has a handful of unique tools - particularly ones developed with A.I. to automatically swap out the sky and turns the usually complex task of editing portraits into a set of sliders. Luminar also has an artificially intelligent digital polarizing filter, sky enhancer, and details enhancer. When we last took Luminar for a test drive - which was before the cataloging feature was added - one of our favorite tools was an option to add sun rays, and when done right, the effect was realistic. In some ways, Luminar has more tools than Lightroom. Despite the push for presets, the advanced editing tools remain intact if you prefer a hands-on approach. While Luminar has many of the same editing tools as Lightroom, the program starts off with a bigger focus on presets and one-click edits, which can help newbies get acquainted with the software. The organization tool that’s missing most is the option to add keywords, which makes photos easier to search for later if you take the time to tag them initially. Luminar is quick to import images and organize them and includes culling tools like flags, stars, and color labels. Potrero is more spread out and has several different beaches to discover. Just five minutes north is the town of Potrero, which has a mixed community of locals, expats, and tourists. With one, you can find a different feel in every direction. Since Flamingo doesn’t have much local culture, those wanting to explore a bit may want to rent a car. These can be rented in town and are a lot of fun! The main street going through Flamingo Most amenities are located in one general area, so you’ll see lots of people getting around by golf cart. Besides the beach, there are several great restaurants, a grocery store, some shops, and plenty of activities to keep you busy (see below). While small, Playa Flamingo has everything you need. The southern end is typically less busy, but a popular restaurant called Coco Loco (see Restaurants section, below) can draw a crowd around lunchtime and sunset. This is because it’s an easier walk from nearby accommodations, including condos and the Margaritaville Beach Resort. The northern end of Playa Flamingo is usually the busiest. The waves are generally small but can be powerful at times, so use caution when wading in. It has a slight pink hue in certain light, hence the Flamingo name. The sand along Flamingo Beach is a light, white color. You’ll be fine as long as you don’t touch them, and if you are worried, there are beach chair and umbrella rentals available too. Sap from the leaves, bark, or fruit can cause a skin rash and blisters. Beware, though, that some of these are manchineel trees, a type of poisonous apple. Along the upper part of the beach, you’ll find some shrubby trees that provide a little shade. The beach at Flamingo is only about one mile long (1.5 km) but is the perfect spot to dig your toes in the sand and relax. Inland along the main road (Route 180) are a few other restaurants, hotels, and homes dotted into the landscape among farm fields and forest. On the northern corner of town, a large marina (currently being expanded) sits protected behind a rocky point. The central area remains just pristine beach. Instead, each hilly end of this beach has been built up with condos, hotels, vacation rental homes, shops, and restaurants. But Flamingo has no real town center and the land behind its beach is sheltered from development because of a large mangrove forest. Most destinations are either set back from a main beach or centered around a downtown square or soccer field. Playa Flamingo has a different setup than other towns in Costa Rica.
